Stumbled across the work of London based Director Raphael Vangelis a few months back. His work ranges from charming and quirky to cool and sleek. He uses stop motion, 3D animation and live action, or a combination of these, and this little video shows off his skills and creative visual mind quite nicely (in my humble opinion).
In his own words ‘…(this) is my animated autobiography. I spend most of my life swearing at the computer because it’s crashed or isn’t working. Here, well known digital symbols are turned into something analogue and playful. The result is an homage to all the lost time we collectively spend in digital limbo in the hopes of sudden development on our screen.’
As consumers we are so bombarded with digital imagery, so there seems to be a real move to/ longing for something more organic and analogue on our screens. It in fact looks more modern given how saturated visual media is with the flattish, digitised 2D and 3D graphics we see everywhere. This is a lovely exploration of that, and I hope that one day the ‘spinning wheel of death’ (the little colour wheel that whirls around and around when you are waiting for a render or something to load) might just be replaced with tactile bubbles of whirring spinning plasticine. How very fun would that be!
